Name: Attack on Titan world ("The Walls")
===Geography===
The Walls are an immense province in the world of Attack on Titan. Placed in a largely flat geographical location, the the province is covered in plains and heavily forested areas. Many human towns, villages and cities exist within the Walls, as well as ancient ruins such as castles or old fortresses. The entire province spans nearly a thousand kilometers in diameter.
It is known as “The Walls” due to the three MASSIVE walls that ring the province. Each of the walls stands nearly fifty meters in height, and are incredibly durable. On the outer layer of each wall is piled stone in much the same manner as a traditional wall, while the inner layer is composed of extremely durable crystallized titans.These extend many meters underground. Not only is this crystal more formidable then the stone layers piled on top, but any that try and break though must deal with the 45 meter titans that are only kept immobile by their need of sunlight. To date only the gatehouses have ever been fully broken, and that was by a massive 60 meter titan . These gatehouses are 10 meters tall and made of steel.
The largest cities are built in little wall off-shoots that extend outward from the main wall.This was primary a means to lure titans to certain, specific points on the wall so that they can be watched easier then if there was a need to cover the entire wall. In a sense these off-shoots are the bait and are usually the first places to be attacked by a titan penetration.
For a century, humanity has withstood attempts made by Titans to penetrate the walls. The smallest of the walls, Wall Sina, is 250 km in radius, and rings the capital, which is located at the exact center of the province. It is within this capital that the King resides, as well as where the elite Military Police are stationed.Too the Capital houses most of the administration, the Parliament, and the secret police. Also it is known that within Wall Sina there are multiple underground cities where the poor are often pushed to live. These places, originally created in ancient times under the theory that humans could escape titans by heading underground, are often disease-ridden and full of criminals.
Wall Rose is the second largest of the three walls, spanning 380 km in radius. This is where the vast majority of humanity lives, ever since Wall Maria was taken by the Titans. It is filled with human towns and villages, as well as countryside retreats.
Lastly Wall Maria rings the outermost regions of the province, and spans 480 km in radius. Five years ago, it was breached by Titans that have overrun the area. There are destroyed and abandoned human villages and cities throughout this region and it is extremely dangerous. Titans roam the area freely, attacking and devouring any humanoid lifeforms that they see.
Beyond the walls is more Titan territory, though geographically, it is not too different from the interior of the province, being marked by wide sweeping plains,some ancient ruins and heavily forested areas. Background photos show there is a sea not too far away from the walls, however no one in the universe can claim to have ever seen a sea.
====Factions====
Titans: The Titans are by far the most prominent faction in the attack on Titan world. These are colossal humanoid lifeforms that drove humanity to near extinction one hundred years ago. Titans range wildly in height, between 3 meters tall, to 15 meters tall, with a few aberrant Titans reaching heights of 18 meters. Fortunately the 45 m titans seem to only exist within the walls. Titans are not generally particularly bright, although there are exceptions to this rule, with Titans that behave differently from the norm. Titans are extremely powerful beings, and will attempt to eat any humans that cross their paths. Indeed they eat only humans, and will ignore animals that get in their path (though for the purposes of this tournament, we will assume they eat any humanoids they come across).
They are extremely fast, even a slow walking pace requiring horses to adequately outrun, and in the rare case a Titan breaks out into a sprint, even horses cannot outrun them. Titans also possess tremendous regenerative abilities, and can recover from almost any wound. The only effective means of killing them is to destroy the base of their neck. Any other wound, a Titan will simply regenerate from, including lost limbs or even decapitation (save those decapitations that take out the base of the neck) in a period of minutes.
Titans don't need to eat and in fact don't even have digestive systems. Instead they will throw up bodies once their bellies are fell of humans, thus signifying that they use such methods of eating solely as a means in which to kill humans. They don't need food or water, shelter or warmth hell they don't even need to breathe! Their only requirement is sunlight, as titans at night will start getting sluggish depending on how big they are (a 4m takes a hour to get sluggish, while a 7m takes 3 hours). In regards to pain it is clear that some titans feel it and others don't, with a potential dividing line being the size of the Titan (as the examples of Sonny and Bean shows, the smaller Sonny had no problems with pain while the larger Bean did). Stamina also seems to highly vary between the different forms.
Titans are not generally particularly organized (though there are exceptions), but swarms of them can nonetheless be extremely dangerous. Titans are found outside the walls, and a heavy population exists between Wall Rose and Wall Maria.
Humanity:
--Total Population: ~1 million
107 years ago, after the Titans attacked, humanity fled to the protection of the Walls, the last safe haven from the Titans. Humanity has been greatly reduced and it is likely that the population of the Walls is only a few million. Humanity does possess a military force, with their technology being largely based on gunpowder. They possess muskets and cannons as their primary ranged weapons, though it is clear that more basic weapons like bows and arrows are possessed by them. Cannons are often mounted on walls in great numbers, particularly in their "gate towns" and can use high explosive or grapeshots. Due to support structures, they can be fired vertically downward.
As a rare experimental gear the Scouting Legion once deployed a series of weapons that could fire hundreds of harpoons at once. Though designed for capturing a titan, this siege weapon could in theory be turned against the living with devastating results.
The most common weapon, besides blackpowder Cannons, that humanity possesses are the 3-D Maneuver Gear, a set of gear developed by humans to combat the Titans. It consists of two piston shot grappling hooks, gas powered launch mechanisms, hand grips and an “iron wire propeller” with plug-in blades. The launch mechanism and grappling hooks allow users trained in this equipment to fight in a three dimensional space, using the grappling hooks to rapidly launch themselves around a battlefield, attacking from the air as well as the ground at high speeds.
This maneuverability allows the user to get behind Titans to attack their weak point with iron-wire plug-in blades. These are essentially replenishable blades of razor sharp, coiled wire, which possess enough force to slice through a Titan’s neck with ease. They are disposable blades and are not suited to be used for more than two or three slashes. However, if a blade is damaged or broken, the user can instantly recover a new blade, by sliding the sword hilt back into the 3-D maneuver gear, which will provide the user with a new blade (though even this has limits, and blades can be exhausted entirely over a long period of time).
Prior to inventing the 3-D maneuver gear, human cavalry would run in to slash the legs of a titan, kneecapping it, before a particularly bold individual would climb up to achieve a close quarters kill. As one can imagine this method was extremely dangerous and invoked many causalities.
Emblems for Garrison, Military Police, and Scouting Legion respectively |
There is the military police—which handle any disputes involving human against human combat. Despite the fact that they are formed from the top 1 % of trainees they are shown to be, for the most part, incompetent, lazy and corrupt. They are also commonly depicted as carrying rifles to combat their human adversaries.However they have a deserved reputation for being corrupt and lazy. There is somewhere between 2,000 to 5,000 members of the military police- which does not count the mysterious Central Battalion.
This group has unknown numbers and operates completely independently from the regular MPs, being bound by no laws. They regularly torture and murder anyone even remotely threatening, even if its a school teacher who said the wrong word. Major technological developments, too, are regarded as threatening. Recently they have become one of the main antagonists for the show as their authority is starting to become severely tested by the Scouting Legion. They are shown to be far more skilled then regular MPs and utilize pistols while flying on their 3-d maneuver gear, designed to specifically counter the Scouting Legion.
Lastly, there is the Scouting Legion, or Survey Corps, or Recon Corps(they have many titles), who specialize in human-to-Titan combat. These forces effectively lead the human resistance against the Titans, regularly advancing into Titan territory, attempting to find some weakness or purpose to the Titans. Of all the military groups, they have the highest casualty rate, and joining the Scouting Legion has been considered by many to be suicidal(though this causality rate significantly improves after the first trial by fire). As a result, they have the lowest numbers of all the military units, with an estimated total of only 300 members.However when it comes to skill and training, the Scouting Legion is the best of the best.
In terms of quality the Scouting Legion often runs rings around them both against titans and Human adversaries. In fact back in the days when Levi was a criminal he practically laughed off the Military Police(not the Central Division), but got extremely serious upon finding out his opponents were of the recon corps. Within a couple minutes Levi and his friends, which had given the Military Police trouble for months, were captured by the Recon Corps.
Society
The current attitudes of Humanity can be described as of boxed cattle that is afraid completely of the outside. There is great but not total public disdain of the Scouting Legion as a "waste of taxes" for their massive causality rate, low success rate, and desire to go outside. Indeed the royal government actually encourages this tendency by considering all talk of outside the wall as "taboo" and will arrest those with books on the outside world. Thus when something does break down the walls they are often revealed to be deeply scared and cowardly, fleeing in mass panic. The military itself, with the exception of the Scouting Legion, which is used to such causalities, suffers from moral problems.
There is a Cult of the Wall that worships the Walls as instruments of the divine, and are extremely volatile in any issues involving them. Thanks to this cults influence it took years to get cannons mounted on top of them, and they have opposed underground tunnels of any sort through the walls. It seems that this reason is partially because, on the top level, they want to deny that the foundation of the walls are made of titan. According to Before the Fall there might also exist a few obscure cults that worship the Titans directly.
If Wall Rose were to be breached, food supplies from Wall Sina could only support the combined population of humanity for a week. After that the top military officials predicted quick insurrection. Even as it is several characters comment that Humanity has reached a boiling point with murders,robberies and such becoming ever more frequent- even in the capital!
Current State:
-Several forces are currently moving rapidly against each other. Erwin Smith has advocated privately to garrison commander Dot Prixus that the current regime be deposed, on the basis of it suppression, corruption and outright lies told. To that end he has advocated the king be replaced by Historia Reiss as sort of a puppet ruler if the real king (not the puppet one on the throne) could not justify his actions. The Scouting Legion and Garrison troops would then assume control of the government and carry out edicts that they believe were best for humanity.
The central brigade of the military police, allied with unknown forces in the government and beyond, is actively shifted its efforts to suppression of the Survey Corps, even announcing their disbanding. They have Commander Irwin on trial, Eren and Krista captured, and the rest of the Survey Corps either on the run or in custody. However neither Irwin or the new commander Zange seem too perturbed by this, for the Scouting Legion acknowledges well that they almost always lose at first, and plan around it. Indeed they have already seemingly led the Southern City of Trost into a rebellion in the latest comic. Meanwhile general crime and unrest increases every day, as does taxes and poverty. All the situation needs is a single spark to be lit....
=====Important individuals=====
Eren Jeager: Eren is a member of the Survey Corps. He is a relatively experienced member, despite only having one confirmed Titan kill with the 3-D Maneuver gear. He is one of the most powerful members of the Corps, due to his not-yet understood ability to transform into a Titan. Eren can become a 15 meter tall Titan, and gains all the benefits of possessing his Titan body, with his human intellect. Though he isn't sure how exactly yet, he has the ability to control the titans in his immediate area and command them to attack enemies. He is a master hand to hand fighter—something he uses quite often as a Titan, to combat others, and is, in many respects, a one-man army, due to his Titan form’s size, power, and regenerative abilities
.
Eren is very passionate and never hesitates in doing what he believes best. His greatest goal in life is to exterminate every last titan, to see humanity once again rise to its position of dominance. To that end he pursues his goals and morals with near psychotic intensity.
Levi Ackerman: A man proclaimed to be humanity’s strongest soldier, Levi Ackerman is a master of the 3-D Maneuver gear, and was notably the only member of the Survey Corps able to defeat the Female Titan, a Titan that entire squads of Survey Corps members, and even Eren couldn’t bring down. Levi defeated it in seconds. Needless to say he is the best swordsmen in the series, even able to cut a speeding bullet in half mid-air. He is a capable strategist, and yet another one-man army in the corps.
At current he leads a elite squad that composes of Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Jean, Connie, and Sasha. It is unknown what relation he has, if any, with Mikasa.
Mikasa Ackerman: A prodigy member of the Survey Corps, Mikasa is one of the more talented members of the unit, and an adopted sister to Eren. She is utterly devoted to him, as he personally rescued her from slave traders when they were 9, killing them. Her skill was equated to being able to accomplish the work of a hundred men by herself.
Mikasa is dedicated to Eren and is rarely seen from his side, or if she is she's with Armin. She can be ruthless in his defense as shown by her attempt to kill Reiner and Berthold before they even attacked, and favors preemptive action.
Armin Arlert: is a childhood friend of Eren Yeager's. Although physically more frail than most, if not all of the current recruits, he has proven his skills as a field tactician and strategist with his high intelligence.On more then one occasion he has saved the lives of both Eren and Mikasa, doing what they could not with their physical strength and skill.
Historia Reiss: Historia Reiss is the daughter of Lord Reiss, the true King of the lands. As such she is a highly wanted personage, used as both a tool by her family and now the Scouting Legion (though they at least feel bad about it). Never wanted until recently, this has left deep scars on her psyche that may prove of great importance if she does ever become a leader.
Levi's Squad: Levi's squad also includes a couple other notable personages of Eren's old trainee squad. Jean Kirstain is Eren's rival/friend who has shown great skill in impromptu leadership. Connie Springer serves as the speedster and scout of the group. Sasha Blouse has both comic relief and great hunting/archery skills, being able to shoot through the handle of a pistol at least 15 meters away.
Erwin Smith: The recently deposed leader of the Survey Corps, Erwin Smith is a brilliant commander, and capable of coming up with exceptional strategies and tactics, on both the combative front and on the front of morale. He is one of the best combatants in the Scouting Legion, second only to Levi Ackerman, and was formerly in charge of the Scouting Legion's activities.
Zoe Hange: A member of the Scouting Legion, Zoe specializes in Titan research. It was Zoe who discovered that Titans were most active during the daytime, and became despondent and slower at night. Though she acknowledges what the Titans have inflicted upon humanity, she thinks the hate-filled method of her predecessors are limited in information. To that end she has striven to try and understand the titans, widening humanity's knowledge on them.She is naturally inquisitive and a brilliant thinker in the same likes of Erwin and Armin.
Which is why she was second-in-command of the Scouting Legion under Erwin and now, with his arrest, in command. As she has been involved since the beginning, even personally torturing members of the Central Brigade, she is well suited to planning out the next phase of the Scouting Legion's coup.
Dot Pixis: This man is the head of the Garrison division, and defense. He is able to devise ingenious defensive strategies with regards to defending the walls, and, as his position would suggest, commands and directs the Garrison division in times of crisis.
Nile Dok: The leader of the Military Police. He is a dutiful member of the Military Police, and a calm and rational man. He can be somewhat detached from the morality of his decisions, allowing him to make the most effective judgement calls as the situation demands.
Mike Zachly : He is the head of the combined military, though rarely intervenes in how they are run. It is noted that Zachly places his utmost duty on what is best for humanity rather then for personal gain.
Titan Shifters: The Titan Shifters are a mysterious group of people who infiltrated the walls 5 years ago with the intent to destroy humanity. They have since switched objectives, seeking now to capture Eren and Krista. This group composes of Berthold, who can turn into a enormous 60m Colossal Titan; Reiner, who can turn into a titan with near unbreakable armored plates; Annie, who can turn into the fast running female titan, and finally Ymir, who can turn into a fast and agile titan.
At current Annie is locked up in a Scouting Legion prison, frozen in crystal. The other three were last seen resting in the Shinegama district (bottom wall-town of Maria) after losing a battle against Eren and the Scouting Legion. While Eren is also a titan shifter, he isn't aligned with this group.
Beast Titan: The Beast Titan is an extremely unusual specimen, having a distinctly ape-like appearance. Its body structure and facial features are like that of a primate, though it walks upright like a human and stands at a previously unseen 17 meters in height. Its extremely intelligent, talkative, able to command the other titans to a degree by bullying them. It also has a unknown means that allows him to turn people into titans. At current no one knows where this Beast Titan is, for it made a random foray over the walls before leaving.
=====Danger Status:4/5=====
On the outside of the walls the large number of Titans will make navigating this province extremely hazardous, and lethal. Few armies will be able to conventionally march on an opponent’s position without losing massive numbers to Titan attacks. The only factor they have in their favor is that many of the titans have already been drawn to the gate zones, and past populated areas they are spread out. Once inside Wall Rose, however, humanity, while advanced and dangerous in their own right, do not have the raw numbers to adequately combat or prove particularly detrimental to an army, though will still prove dangerous and problematic if not dealt with. However this faction of native humans can still be reasoned with, and indeed might prove to be great allies to some.
